Michael Patrick King – Writer/Director/ Producer of Sex and the City 2
You've done a great job of keeping the plot under wraps for this one. What's with the secrecy?Michael Patrick King: "Because I don't like to know what I'm getting for Christmas at Thanksgiving. And it's such a present to be able to do the movie, and it's such a gift for us to be able to say, 'Look what we've been working on and here's the surprise.' And I also think the fans of Sex and the City like to worry, and they like to worry about what's going to happen. 'Is it going to be that story?' What's going to happen to their girlfriends? So it's suspenseful in a good way, and yet we're starting to leak out – you'll see a little bit more and a little bit more. But even if you saw the entire, every plot point, you still wouldn't experience the girls doing it. You know what I mean? The colors and the emotions and the lives of these four amazing characters played by these great actresses."
Do you still have a lot of feedback from the fans? Do they still interact with you a lot?
Michael Patrick King: "Oh my god – on airplanes! I mean just coming out here on an airplane the stewardess, 'Thank you.' I mean it's a great fan base because they're very, very emotionally connected to these characters. And you know when I sit down to write, each time I sit down to write they're the first people in my mind. What do they want to see, and I hope they like this. And so we made a new version of Sex and the City the movie, and I hope you like it."
