Anna Faris – The Voice of 'Sam Sparks' in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
What was the appeal of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs?
Anna Faris: "I loved the book as a kid growing up and so it was... I had been wanting to do an animated movie and so when I got the call I was thrilled."
Who do you play?
Anna Faris: "I play Sam Sparks and she's an aspiring weather-caster and she falls in love with Flint Lockwood over there [looking at Bill Hader] and together they have to save the world."
What's it like to play somebody who's hiding her intelligence?
Anna Faris: "I love that it's sort of the reverse of this, because normal you have nerd girl sort of becomes hot and cool by the end of the movie. And this is something that's a little different, and I was just so excited to play a character who's so feisty. She's feisty and she's frustrated with, you know, her job. And so it was great for me."
And doing a kids' film?
Anna Faris: "My parents are thrilled."
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs Writer/Directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord
Didn't you know not to [eat the jell-o on display]?
Phil Lord: "Somebody told me to eat it."
It's movie magic. You don't eat the food!
Phil Lord: "It tasted great. No, it was totally great."
This is an incredible premiere that they've got going for this.
Phil Lord: "Isn't that funny? It's ridiculous."
Did you expect that?
Phil Lord: "No. I didn't expect it to be released. I'm very excited."
How important was it getting this voice cast?
Phil Lord: "Well, you know, we wanted to pack the movie with all of our comedy friends and heroes, so to have Bill Hader, Anna Faris, Mr T, James Caan, Neil Patrick Harris, Andy Samberg - it's a dream come true. That's a nerdy kid's dream come true. Not that I'm a nerdy kid because..."
I was just going to ask.
Phil Lord: "I assume. I assume."
Chris Miller: "We were super popular and have no idea what being a nerd is like."
Phil Lord: "I wanted to cast all football players and cheerleaders. But I get it. I guess people like this."
How are you going to follow this one up?
Phil Lord: "No idea."
Chris Miller: "That's a great question. Something awesome. Something even awesomer, if that's possible."
