Big dogs versus little dogs, where do you stand on that?

Owen Wilson: "That question throws me because we're used to getting cat or dog person and now we're taking it to big dog, little dog. My dog...I have a dog named Garcia, an Australian cattle dog and he's 50 pounds. I guess that's mid-sized so I guess I'm in the middle."

That's kind of a wishy washy answer.

George Lopez: "I've got big dogs in my house, and I've got little dogs in the house. I think I'm, believe it or not, a little dog person. Tiny, like a miniature Yorkie. That's almost like an invisible dog. That's almost like one of those you put on your dashboard. Or a Teacup."

Owen Wilson: "I like those little Jack Russell Terriers. Those have, even though they're little dogs, they have kind of have assertive personalities."

Well then the cat versus dog issue, if we're going to bring that up.

George Lopez: "Have you ever owned a cat?"

Owen Wilson: "I've never owned a cat, although I did have a cat like in college kind of come by and so I started putting food and water out for it, and so it started to hang around. I was thinking like, 'Cats are pretty cool.'"

They're independent.

Owen Wilson: "They are independent."

George, where do you stand?

George Lopez: "I got a cat that I brought from Hawaiian to the mainland, as we say. And he's cool. He's a very quiet cat. I don't think he can do that with his..."

Owen Wilson: "Give the shaka."

George Lopez: "But he's very mellow. He sleeps for hours. Wish I could do that."

So they never let you guys record together in the booths?

Owen Wilson: "Well, I think we were going to and then it just never worked out with getting it figured out. But in a way, I don't know if it worked better but it was kind of nice that the stuff was already done and so I'd hear stuff that George had come up with and be able to play off that, and kind of keep fine-tuning it from there."

How much did you guys go off the script? How much did you get to throw in of your own?

Owen Wilson: "I thought the guys did a good job with the script and then, you know, some situations you'd kind of...or you'd hear something that someone else did and like spark an idea."

George Lopez: "When you go in the first time, it's a little bit of an orientation type thing. The second time I went in, I went back and redid some of the stuff I did the first time. Because I was like, 'I think I can do that better.'"

Owen Wilson: "Yeah, I'd do that too. Sometimes you'd think, 'Oh let me try that again. I feel like I can go better or more energy or something.'"

There's no R-rated cut of Marmaduke out there from what you guys threw in?

George Lopez: "No. I don't think they'd let those dogs anywhere near themselves during the filming."

Why at this point is it so important to do family-friendly films?

Owen Wilson: "I think for what you just said kind of. I think because it is sort of a nice thing for a family to be able to do on a weekend or something, especially in the summer, is go to the movies. I know that was a big thing for me growing up, so when you have a movie that kind of can play to the whole family that's really nice."

Did you know Marmaduke? Is that a cartoon you read when you were a kid?

Owen Wilson: "You know, it was on...I just remember it kind of like being in the newspaper. You know, you'd see that kind of cartoon and stuff."

George Lopez: "Well we definitely make it the coolest. I mean it's always been great. Now it's a movie, it's updated - a movie with voices and everything. Marmaduke has always been like one great cartoon. Now, it's 40 years have went into this movie."

Owen Wilson: "Did you ever read the cartoon?"

I did, and it was my dad's favorite.

Owen Wilson: "And what was his personality in the cartoon?"

He was just a big goofy dog that always got in trouble.

Owen Wilson: "Yeah."

That's what he is in the movie.

George Lopez: "They'd yell his name. The name is great - Marmaduke."
