Maggie Q - Priest
I was on the set when you were out on the Gunsmoke set. That was very cool.Maggie Q: "Wasn't it beautiful? The production value is so high in this. They were so smart about where the money went and how it was done. Everything about this film is done well. You know, we were supposed to be released this summer and then the beginning of the year, and now we're waiting until summer because they just want to do it right, and I'm so pleased by that."
It's not being sold as a vampire film and I like that, because there are so many other vampire films out there. What appealed to you about taking it on.
Maggie Q: "Well I mean the script was great. There's really no other way to put it. It was incredibly well written. Every character was developed properly. Everyone had their arc. There was no gratuitous anything whether it be a physical action or a character for no reason, it wasn't happening. All the meeting and all the intertwining of the characters was solid, and that was exciting about the script."
And I love that you're a strong, powerful female character which we need more of in films.
Maggie Q: "We really do. Also, we need the real thing. We don't want to fake it. We don't fake female strong characters. We need women who...and what I love about this film, women are going to love this film and that's one thing that I haven't said yet today. There was a backstory between Paul and my character and about a love that will probably never happen. And it's absolutely something that every woman in the world has experienced and it is so incredibly heartbreaking and sad that women are going to walk away from this... Our editor is a female and she said every time she edits our scenes, she cries. There's a lot of drama."
Tell me about working with Paul Bettany.
Maggie Q: "Boring."
He's a horrible guy to work with.
Maggie Q: "The worst. I mean you've talked to him I'm sure. I was saying to someone else earlier that when you have a lead for a film or show, whatever it is, their attitude and their leadership is going to reflect the attitude of the crew and the experience for everyone. And Paul happens to be an incredible talent which, that aside, loving and generous and just fair, and a wonderful guy. And so because of his leadership, he brought that out in everyone on the crew, and we laughed our way through this entire film."
Did you really because it's a very serious film.
Maggie Q: "Very serious. And we were always laughing. Scott Stewart always says the one thing he could count on every day on set was him and I dying laughing before the most serious take. He always thought that was so funny that they we were having such a good time."
So there's going to be a good blooper reel then?
Maggie Q: "It is so good. I've seen it already. It is so good. This one, the best - and you're not going to expect it from such a serious film. It's really wonderful because we all are very stoic in this film. There are levels to it, but it's a dark film."
