Will Ferrell – 'Rick Marshall' in Land of the Lost

You don't do a whole lot of action, but in this movie you do. What was that like?

Will Ferrell: "It was great. It was a brand new kind of challenge. Like you said, I haven't done a movie where you have to get into harnesses and get pulled around on wires and a lot of running. Did a lot of running."

From imaginary things.

Will Ferrell: "Exactly, yeah. But it was cool. It really makes you kind of feel like you're invested and part of the film."

Why is now the right time to bring back Land of the Lost?

Will Ferrell: "I don't know if it's that so much as it is it just kind of happened that way. I feel like it's just a great time for a movie like this in general. It's just fun, escapist entertainment that’s really fun. It's a fun movie. The action's great, but the comedy's great. So I think this is exactly the type of movie people are looking for right now."

And you don't have to be a fan of the original series to understand this, right?

Will Ferrell: "No, no. We made sure that we paid enough attention to the show and brought back specific things. But at the same time we made it an original story that if you don't have any knowledge of the existing television series, it won't matter. You'll still get it."

How do you react to just like a stick with a ball on the end of it? How does that become in your mind a T-Rex?

Will Ferrell: "You know what? I spent a lot of time with a stick with a ball on the end of it, just in my private life."

Growing up?

Will Ferrell: "I slept with it. No, no, just in preparation for this movie. I took vacations with the stick with a ball on the end just so when I saw the stick and the ball I would know that's a dinosaur."

Is this something we can go back and visit again?

Will Ferrell: "Yeah, I think so. It's kind of that world that you want to… What's great about a kind of cosmic dumping ground from the future and the past is you can have any kind of scenario there. So I think it's well suited for the return."

What do you think about the fact they made the little kids [from the series] into adults in this one?

Will Ferrell: "Well that was kind of the choice we made because we felt like it would allow us a different place to go with the comedy. Because of that we got to cast Danny McBride and Anna Friel. We just felt like it was the strongest creative choice to do that."
