Kieran Culkin - 'Wallace Wells' in Scott Pilgrim vs the World
Let me tell you, of all the bizarre characters in this you're my favorite.Kieran Culkin: "Awesome."
Was he so much fun to play?
Kieran Culkin: "So much fun to play. He was one of my favorites too when I read the comic - him and Kim Pine. Alison Pill plays her."
Why did you like him so much?
Kieran Culkin: "I mean, come on! I've actually had a tough time explaining that. When people ask me to explain my character, I have a tough time explaining it. I'm just like, 'Here, read the comic or watch the movie. I think you'll sort of get the idea of what the appeal is for wanting to play him.'"
So this is a huge cast, what did you guys do to bond?
Kieran Culkin: "There were a lot of get-togethers and stuff. Actually, Edgar [Wright] did a really good job of that. He brought us out for dinners and such, and made sure that we hung out a lot. A lot of us - because it was about a six, seven month shoot - a lot of us were in and out of Toronto. I was there for about a three month chunk in the middle, but I still was able to connect with the entire cast, even if it was briefly - mostly after the film did we actually, I think, get along."
Are you guys having a good time promoting this? I know you were just at Comic Con.
Kieran Culkin: "Actually, yeah. It hasn't felt like work or feel like I'm whoring myself to see the movie. It feels like I watched the movie, I enjoyed watching it and then we go to Comic Con and talk to people who actually enjoyed the movie too - and I get to watch it and talk to them as a fan of the movie. It's pretty cool, actually."
What should people expect from Scott Pilgrim?
Kieran Culkin: "You should expect a movie that you've never seen before. It's an experience. It's something entirely of its own. What Edgar has done has brought you into this world of the surreal. It's not a comic book...It's not a comic adapted into a movie made into real life. You're living in this world. It's pretty amazing."
