X-Men Origins Wolverine - Kevin Durand Interview
Kevin Durand wanted to play a mutant in an 'X-Men' movie after seeing the first film back in 2000. He gets his wish with 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' which introduces some new mutants to the big screen including Durand's character, The Blob.

Kevin Durand – 'Fred Dukes'/'The Blob' in X-Men Origins: Wolverine
I think it was Smokin' Aces last time we spoke. This is a different type of role from Smokin' Aces, although you also get to get into weird costumes.Kevin Durand: "Yeah, yeah. They keep dressing me up really weird. It's funny. But this guy's really funny. Really fun and sad."
He is sad and he's not very sharp.
Kevin Durand: "I guess…it's kind of hard…not very sharp? I think he's probably smarter than we see. You just insulted The Blob."
I did not insult The Blob. Did you actually get into that costume? That is you underneath all of that, right?
Kevin Durand: "Seven hours every day, yep. "
How long do you stay in that because it must have been 300 degrees inside of all that?
Kevin Durand: "They had this like… Race car drivers use these shirts that have tubing through them. They're attached to an ice box, so I had ice water running. I would burn up during a take. After the take they would run this ice water through me. It was like hot, cold, hot, cold, hot, cold."
Was that kind of miserable?
Kevin Durand: "I would say so if I wasn't having – I just had so much fun that it was so worth it."
Are you a huge X-Men guy? Did you know the whole history?
Kevin Durand: "When I saw the first X-Men film I remember being in absolutely awe. I just thought, 'Man, wouldn't it be something to be a part of something like that,' and here we are."
But then when they say you're going to be The Blob, do you go, "Could I just be someone maybe a little bit more exciting?"
Kevin Durand: "Yeah, I went through that. I went through that for a second, but then I really thought about it. I was like how cool to get to disappear and put on this big old voice and just do something totally different. "
How did you find that voice?
Kevin Durand: "It was a part of the whole process with the suit. I'd go in and do fittings and as they start putting this body and this face on me, he just kind of came out."
Are you doing Robin Hood too? [directed by Ridley Scott and starring Russell Crowe]
Kevin Durand: "I just got off a plane right now from London."
Is that going to be as cool as it sounds like it's going to be? I'm so excited for that movie.
Kevin Durand: "I think it's going to be pretty incredible. It's been such an amazing experience so far. Can't really say much else about it at this point, just that I'm really excited."
A brand new take on Robin Hood?
Kevin Durand: "A new take, right."
