Julie Benz - Dexter and The Boondock Saints II: All Saint's Day
This season is kicking butt on every other season, which is what you promised me a couple of weeks ago.
Julie Benz: "I did. And it's just going to get better."
How is it doing it?
Julie Benz: "I don't know. We have an amazing writing team. We never see them. They're like holed up in some little room. I honestly think that one of them is a serial killer. Has to be."
In order to get these storylines down.
Julie Benz: "Yeah, it makes sense. I don't really want to know which one because then I'll end up being killed, but I do suspect. I've narrowed it down to one of three."
Do you think she's gotten a little stronger throughout the years?
Julie Benz: "Rita? Oh definitely. She's gotten a lot stronger, for sure, all through the love of a serial killer. Who knew?"
This season I think there's a real big change in her. I don't know if it's the baby or the marriage, or just a combination.
Julie Benz: "Well, she finally has everything that she wants in her life, you know? She has security and love and peace and quiet."
How many years do you want to do the show?
Julie Benz: "I would do it for as long as they would want me to do it."
You never get tired of this one?
Julie Benz: "No. No, it's a great show to work on. It's a great group of people. We are a very tight cast and crew. We're very much a family so I would never walk away from it. They're going to have to kill me or kick me out to get me off the show."
Dexter's going to have to kill you to get you off the show.
Julie Benz: "Exactly."
And Boondock Saints 2 is coming out in just a couple of weeks, right?
Julie Benz: "Yes, October 30th it opens."
Do you have to have seen the first one to understand the second one?
Julie Benz: "No, but it actually helps, but you don't have to. But there are some really funny inside jokes that if you see the first one, you're going to laugh really loud when you see them. Otherwise you're going to be like, 'Why are these people laughing?' One joke in particular is really funny, but you have to see the first one to understand it."
I'll see the first one now. I have it in my DVD collection, I just haven't watched it yet.
Julie Benz: "It's really good. Definitely. It'll fly by. You'll be so grateful once you watch it. I think the first one was brilliant."
Were you a fan before you signed on for the second?
Julie Benz: "No, I had no idea there was even… I had no idea. All I knew was what was on the written page and all I knew was that Troy Duffy wrote this amazing character named Eunice Bloom and I wanted to play her. And thank god I didn't have to kill too many girls to get the role – just a handful. But I got it, so…"
