Michael Fassbender - 'Burke' in Jonah Hex

Tell me about working on it.

Michael Fassbender: "It was a trip, really, because it was a Western in one sense and then a comic book in another. And we just sort of went all out and just sort of had as much fun with it as we could, and didn't get stuck in any genre."

Did you have to know the source material at all to understand the story?

Michael Fassbender: "I don't think so. I usually sort of work off what's written on the page and the script anyway. Everything that you need to know is pretty much there in the script. And I would take my reference points off of other things that had nothing to do with Jonah Hex at all, like Clockwork Orange. And also I kind of sort of took some inspiration from early Riddler, like the 1970s Riddler. So, you know, I kind of just sort of got a feel for the character and then looked for inspirations in other areas other than sort of the comic book itself."

Those are two very interesting things that you looked at in order to get into it. How'd you figure out that's what you were going to play?

Michael Fassbender: "I didn't really figure it out until I went to Michael Wilkinson, who's doing the costume, and I found a bowler hat. Once I put the bowler hat on, I channeled Burke from his bowler hat."
