Horton Hears a Who! doesn't seem like a normal transition into Jonah Hex.
Jimmy Hayward: "Why not?"
Well, animals, animated... Now we're going into a sci-fi Western...
Jimmy Hayward: "It's all storytelling. I think if you know me personally, you'd be more surprised I directed Horton and not Jonah Hex."
That's more where your sensibilities lie?
Jimmy Hayward: "Yeah, totally. I mean I just kind of grew up at Pixar so it was a natural transition for me to do Horton. I really wanted to do a Dr. Seuss movie right, and that property was available. And I love that book and so I wanted to tell that story."
And keeping the Confederate uniform, I know people online have talked about the fact that you're keeping it. Was it ever a debate for you?
Jimmy Hayward: "Never. No, because it's part of the story. Jonah Hex redeemed himself for his actions in the war so for him, his war's not over until he finishes it. It's not about him being a Confederate, it's the exact opposite. He quit the war. He wears his jacket until he fully redeems himself. It's part of the story."
Megan Fox - 'Leila' in Jonah Hex
What's Leila's involvement in the story?
Megan Fox: "Well Jonah, played by [Josh] Brolin, is this John Wayne on steroids cowboy and Leila is his love interest. She's a prostitute he's been coming to see for years. She's one of the only people, or things, that he loves or as close to love as he can feel. They have this very sort of twisted, bizarre love relationship."
How was filming Jonah Hex?
Megan Fox: "My part is actually very small. I'm only in, I think, three or four scenes. I'm not a major part of the movie so I got it all squashed down to five days of filming."
