Josh Brolin tackles the lead role in Warner Bros Pictures' 'Jonah Hex,' an action Western based on the comic books by John Albano & Tony Dezuniga. Since it's a comic book adaptation, there was no better place to chat about the film than at Comic Con.

Josh Brolin - 'Jonah Hex' in Jonah Hex
I know you were on the fence for a while about playing this role because during the Milk junket you said...
Josh Brolin: "Yeah. I just talked to you guys about it and that's when I made my decision. I kept talking to the press."
How did they help you? What changed your mind?
Josh Brolin: "I don't know. Because you start talking to the fans and you start finding out people who've had relationships with this character or this comic book for a very long time. It's not necessarily you know an extremely successful comic book - not like Batman or Spider-Man. You know, you have your loyalists that I talked to. I really just started to see from their point of view the diamond that they saw in the comic book, even though it went through three different manifestations of how the comic book was and how the character was. At one point he looked like a '70s porn star. I was like, 'I don't want to do that version, really.' And I thought there was something there to really play with. In the beginning I said no right away, but then I thought this could be great. And also the fact that people were kind of expecting me to do a big, big action film or something like that - this was the opposite of that. This was an extremely risky...the studio was very nervous because they said there's no model to base this on. It's a genre that doesn't really exist because it's a Western but then again it's sort of supernatural. And then also it's like a dark circus, you know? It's absurd. It's bizarre. We've got some really amazing actors: Michael Shannon, Michael Fassbender. Megan [Fox] I thought did very, very well. Malkovich who's my buddy for a long time. I thought he was amazing. So I think we pulled it off. I think we did good."
