John Krasinski ('Carter Rutherford')
Your sports background, is that what made you perfect for this type of role?
John Krasinski: "Absolutely. I am the epitome of a football player. Truth is, I could be in the NFL and this acting thing came along. But, I probably could be a really good football player. I would die if I stepped out on a professional field."
John Krasinski: "Yeah, no one would even have to touch me. They hit so hard that just out of nervousness I'd have a heart attack."
Well, they weren't hitting you in the movie though, right?
John Krasinski: "No, and that was weird because there was definitely a day where I'm like, 'I'm pretty good at this game.' And George is like, 'You're an idiot. I have directed these people to jump at your feet.' I'm like, 'Look at that. I'm pretty quick.'"
What is George the director versus George the actor like?
John Krasinski: "You know, he's so real with himself. He's not any harder on us than he is on himself, which I thought was interesting. He really got nervous to finish the scene after he'd gotten coverage of all of us. I think that that sort of care and understanding of what he needs to do as a director was really incredible. He's so focused as a director and writer and producer and everything. But, you know, to be directed by him was really incredible. I think having him act in the movie as well, he was even directing you in his performance, like trying to get you to do something different. He had to work really hard with me."
You were still filming The Office while you were trying to do this.
John Krasinski: "I was."
How did you balance that? How did you play Jim and this guy? They're so different.
John Krasinski: "It wasn't so hard to do because going down on the weekends, despite the grueling schedule, I never even knew what was going on. Because to get to go down and play football with George and doing this movie, and then have the day job that you come back to be The Office, it's not a bad life. I'm the luckiest guy around, for sure."
Jenna Fischer (The Office)
Jenna Fischer: "Coming back from the strike, everyone, the cast and the crew, were so happy to be back at work. I think it was maybe the most fun we've had since season 2 on the show. It felt like starting the show all over again. Everyone was both rested and so eager to get back to work, and so it's been really great."
We keep hearing about this dinner party episode. What sets it apart from all the rest that you've done?
Jenna Fischer: "Well, you know we've always liked the idea of having the couples interact as couples. And when they're in the office, everyone keeps things a little bit more low key, you know? Any of the couples just aren't as showy with their affection. They're part of an office ensemble, they're not couples. So the idea of having them attend a dinner party together as couples, you get to see more of the couple-y dynamic, which is really fun."
