Rebecca Murray from About.com Hollywood Movies at the LA Premiere of Columbia Pictures' How Do You Know.
Kathryn Hahn - 'Annie' in How Do You Know
You are hilarious and you steal every scene.Kathryn Hahn: "Thank you very much. Oh god, no. You're very sweet."
You and Paul Rudd - you guys have some chemistry.
Kathryn Hahn: "I know. I love him so much. I only want to work with him. I feel like I'm kind of just holding onto his coattails as hard as I can."
Well you are working with him a ton.
Kathryn Hahn: "I know, it's crazy. I don't know how I got so lucky because I only want to work with him. He's the nicest, most decent man in the business as far as I know. I'm so happy for the success that he's going to... I mean he's so brilliant in this movie I think. He's such a kind person so it couldn't happen to a better person."
And you were actually pregnant while you filming this.
Kathryn Hahn: "Yeah."
Was that miserable?
Kathryn Hahn: "No. I had a toddler at home at the time who is now four, and so it was such a break to be actually in a hair and makeup chair and laugh at Jack Nicholson than running after a four year old. This was actually a vacation for me."
Is this the type of movie you'd go see and why should audiences chose this when there are so many other movies out there?
Kathryn Hahn: "Oh because I think it's really romantic. I think it's like honestly romantic, and I think it's funny - really genuinely. It's a grown-up comedy, you know? It doesn't dumb down. I grew up with Broadcast News and When Harry Met Sally, and I feel like there's something about this one that looks like it could be cut of that same clothe."
Teyonah Parris - 'Riva' in How Do You Know
You do look like you could be a softball player.Teyonah Parris: "I was. I played for about 12 years."
And you brought those skills to the set.
Teyonah Parris: "Yes, indeed. And I think I did a very fine job doing so, yes."
This is your first feature film. You're with Reese Witherspoon, you're directed by James L Brooks...how do you ever top that?
Teyonah Parris: "You know, I can't plan it. I didn't plan this so I'll just hope as I go along it will kind of happen itself. You can't plan something like that. I never would have imagined this would have been my first film."
Was Reese really helpful on the set, knowing that it was your first film?
Teyonah Parris: "The entire crew was, everyone. They were all so gracious, so generous, so patient. And it was fun. The set was a fun set."
Was it? Like cracking each other up between scenes?
Teyonah Parris: "I mean, you know when you're doing it for the 40 millionth time, it takes that one person to just kind of go whatever they say and everybody's just like, 'We're so delirious!'"
How easy is it for you to stop yourself from laughing and get yourself ready to go?
Teyonah Parris: "I've done theater forever. This was just my first time breaking into feature films, so you know, in theater you go and go and then you have the immediate response of the audience. It wasn't too bad."
Talk about James L Brooks as a director. How did you help you out?
Teyonah Parris: "What I really appreciated about Jim was that he knew how to talk to an actor. It wasn't direction like, 'Do this. Do that.' It was asking the questions, just trying to elicit what he wanted and letting me do my job as the actress to try and give it to him. It's a comedy so as we're going through the scenes you hear him chuckling in the background. And in my mind I'm thinking, 'Is it okay that he's laughing? Is that going to mess it up? Can they hear me?' But it was fun."
Is this the type of movie you'd go see in theaters?
Teyonah Parris: "Yes indeed. Yes, I'm a huge romantic comedy fan."
