Kat Dennings ('Mona')
You actually play a sorority girl who's doing this as a sociological experiment or something, right?
Kat Dennings: "She kind of views everything as a human behavior experiment."
How much fun is it to play that kind of a character who's got that view on life?
Kat Dennings: "You know, it's fun. It's a lot more fun than being perky, I'll tell you that. It's a lot more relaxing."
And she also has kind of a twisted view about men too, right?
Kat Dennings: "Yeah, they've done her wrong, man. She's over it."
Is it easier to play someone who is like a Bunny or like a geek?
Kat Dennings: "They both are fun and easy in different ways. Because being the glamorous blonde thing was such a not me thing to do that it was so much acting, that it just was so fun to do that. So much fun. And the before stuff when we're kind of slumpy was very easy because I was just sitting there. Like, 'I don't care what's going on.'"
You get to work with all these fabulous women. How much fun was it to be on a set with so many strong female actresses?
Kat Dennings: "It was amazing. I've never done that before. I've never really had an all girl thing before so it was a real powerful group, you know?"
And speaking of powerful, this does have a message for young women – it's not just about looking pretty. How important was that for you to get that message out?
Kat Dennings: "Very important. I definitely wanted girls – we all wanted girls to know that it's not about making yourself over. It's about realizing who you really are and what you really want. You don't have to dress like that to feel comfortable about yourself. In fact, it's a tool to show them how wrong it can go and exactly what they've got."
And you've got Nick and Norah's too, which looks so funny. I can't wait to see it. The trailer is so cool. I can't wait.
Kat Dennings: "Thank you. Oh my god, thank you. I went to a screening last night and I'm so proud of the movie. It's really great."
Who's the target audience? Is it young adults?
Kat Dennings: "You know what? I went with my mom and my brother, and my mom is older and she loved it. My brother's 30 almost and he loved it. And I love it. Younger audiences will flip out. But there's something for everyone because the romance is taken very seriously. It's not like, 'Oh, it's teen this…' Everything is taken seriously, like people do. You take your life seriously. And I'm very proud of it."
