Matthew Broderick (The Voice of 'Despereaux') and Dustin Hoffman (The Voice of 'Roscuro')

Dustin Hoffman: "We were talking about this how we don't know what the secret is but for some reason why do they all, except for this one, most of them start off really scary. They really do. And if they don't, then they get really scary in it. Bambi, you know all the animals run from a flaming jungle. Pinocchio gets his legs burned off. We were talking about Grimms' Fairy Tales. This one really is a non-traumatic film, I think."

Matthew Broderick: "It scared my son a little bit, truthfully."

Dustin Hoffman: "Which [part]? Do you mean when the cat came out?"

Matthew Broderick: "Yeah, and when I was, my character gets banished and put into a big hole."

Dustin Hoffman: "What did he call that? Did he call it the basement?"

Matthew Broderick: "I don't remember. But he was like, 'Why did that happen?' He kept asking me why did that happen."

Dustin Hoffman: "All the way through the screening."

Matthew Broderick: "Yeah."

What are some perks about being a mouse?

Matthew Broderick: "Mobility. You can really get anywhere you need to be."

Dustin Hoffman: "That's a really smart answer."

Matthew Broderick: "That's the main thing."

And the whole mouse versus rat issue – where do you stand?

Matthew Broderick: "Well..."

Dustin Hoffman: "I want an honest answer."

Matthew Broderick: "I find…gee, that's a tough one. Some people are more afraid of mice because they're littler and can get up your pant leg. But a mouse seems like he could actually do you harm, I mean in real life."

Dustin Hoffman: "A rat you know what you're facing. He doesn't make any bones about it. He's right there. A mouse, they pretend. You don't know, they could bite you behind your back, but a rat will take your neck off right in front of you."

Tracey Ullman - The Voice of 'Mig' in The Tale of Despereaux

Tracey Ullman: "Are you still owned by 'The New York Times'?"

Yes, we're still owned by 'The New York Times'.

Tracey Ullman: "Good. I go to About.com. I get so many tips from you on how to download documentaries and things. It's a really good site."

That's always nice to know.

Tracey Ullman: "Yes. Good luck to you."

And good luck to you with this film. I haven't seen it yet but it looks beautiful.

Tracey Ullman: "I haven't seen it yet either."

How much fun is it to do a voice?

Tracey Ullman: "It's lovely. I mean, it takes years. It seems like two years ago we started this. And you go in sort of in isolation, I didn't work with Matthew or Dustin. Other actors stand in on those voices. I didn't meet Emma Watson. But it's great fun. You don't have to put on make-up or anything. It's just you in front of a microphone and these terrific directors. You go back and you do it again, and then you see a few drawings. I haven't seen the whole thing. I'm really excited to. It looks beautiful."

It's a different type of animation than we're used to seeing. Do you like this type of animation?

Tracey Ullman: "No idea. I just know that the writing was good because it came from a really good book. This looks like beautiful colors, the little bits that I've seen. I don't know quite how they do it – if it's computerized or drawn. Is it? I don't know. You seem to know more about it than me. I can't draw for sh-t. Terrible. I think of great things and stick men come out. Can't draw. We have no artists in our family at all. So I'm looking forward to it. I really am. I brought my nine year old nephew so we'll see what he makes of it."
