Helen Mirren - Red
This is so far out of anything you've ever done before. Is that the appeal of it?Helen Mirren: "Yes, of course it is. You're absolutely right. You know you always pray for something like this to come along. It doesn't always come and so often the work that you're offered it just is a replication of something that you've just done. And especially after The Queen and the kind of response that that film got, I was very keen to find something that was not like that at all - that was very, very different. And, you know, like a miracle this movie arrived. And so I jumped at it."
You get to fire guns - big guns - right?
Helen Mirren: "Big guns. Smallish guns and bigger guns and then enormous guns, yes."
Your fans are not going to understand this.
Helen Mirren: "I hope my new fans will. I'm hoping to make some new fans with this fun."
I've been reading a lot of things about this and everyone seems to be saying we need to check out Helen in this. Bruce we're used to seeing in action, but Helen...
Helen Mirren: "Helen we're not. I know, it's true."
What was it like on the set with all this action stuff going on?
Helen Mirren: "I have to say Bruce is so welcoming. I was nervous because I've never..."
Really?
Helen Mirren: "Yes, not about the gun shooting and stuff like that, but I've never done a movie like this before so I don't quite know how it works, you know? And also Bruce, obviously, and Morgan [Freeman] and John Malkovich, very big stars as far as I'm concerned. And I was a little nervous about it, but Bruce is so welcoming and he;s such a great guy, he just made me feel immediately at ease and that really made a big difference."
