Ewen Bremner ('Alfonz')

You play Matthew McConaughey's best friend in this. Explain to me your character.

Ewen Bremner: "Well, me and Matthew work together as treasure hunters. We started our own company. We were like the boys who had to bash barnacles off the hub of the big man's boat who's played by Ray Winstone. He's the lead treasure hunter who we've left and made our own company, and joined together with Kate [Hudson] as well. But we're going through very rocky times and broken up, and we're holding on for that big find if we can possibly find it. You know, combing the ocean."

So you actually had to get in and do the diving, and do everything down under? How was that?

Ewen Bremner: "It was actually, of course, we were very well looked after. We were completely in a controlled environment most of the time."

Most of the time?

Ewen Bremner: "Most of the time. You can't control the ocean. There's all kinds of things that live in the ocean that don't really want you to be there. So as much as possible, we were well looked after. We had a good dive team sort of giving us back up. But we were down there doing all the scuba stuff."

So I hear that there were actually jellyfish that invaded your set and you had to move.

Ewen Bremner: "Yes."

Were you close to getting attacked by jellyfish?

Ewem Bremner: "We were attacked by jellyfish. I mean, we had crew members – important crew members – stung by these Irukandji jellyfish, which are probably the deadliest kind of jellyfish you can be stung by. We had to stop production and find a new location, and move the whole massive super crew thousands of miles down the coast to another location and set up there. We got hit several times."

Alexis Dziena ('Gemma')

You have some interesting outfits in this movie. Did you get to help pick those out?

Alexis Dziena: "I did. You know, Ngila [Dickson], the costume designer, and I worked really closely together. I think for Gemma her wardrobe is so important because it's so important to her. So we really had a great time picking out her clothes."

How do you make somebody like this who could come across as just a spoiled brat into something more than that?

Alexis Dziena: "You know, I tried to think of her just from coming from a place of warmth and naiveté, rather than shallowness or stupidity. I like to consider those byproducts and not what make her up as a person."

How was the diving experience?

Alexis Dziena: "The diving experience was pretty intense. It's a little bit scary. There's a lot of tricks you have to learn, emergency evacuation routes, all that kind of thing. So it's really rewarding. It's definitely something I wouldn't have done otherwise."

Did you keep up with it after the shoot was over?

Alexis Dziena: "I haven't yet, but I would like to, definitely."

Kevin Hart ('Bigg Bunny')

I hear you weren't a huge fan of actually going in the water.

Kevin Hart: "No, no, no. Not at all because of the stuff that can kill you that was in the water. That was pretty much my reason for staying out of the way."

And yet you signed on to a movie that has a lot of diving, so you knew there was going to be some water involved…

Kevin Hart: "Yes, but you always act like you can do whatever they need you to do before you get the job. If they had have said, 'Kevin, we're going to need you to dive in that tank and we're going to need you to get in there every day starting at 5 in the morning.' 'I can do it, guys! I'm with it!' When we get there, they would have had a problem getting me in that water but it would have been too late because I would have been in Australia so we would have had to deal with it. You always do what they want you to do and say you'll do whatever before you get the job. Once you get it, cancel everything. That's what I do."

How tough is it playing a bad guy in a romantic comedy? You still have to keep it a little light, right?

Kevin Hart: "Well, you know what? It's a line that you just have to be careful with crossing or not crossing. You want to come across likeable, but at the same time you're the bad guy. So you want people to hate you but you have to do it in a way where if kids watch it, you're not menacing. Andy Tennant was very, very good at getting that point across to me and making sure that I didn't overstep the angry line and I didn't overstep the comedy line. He kept me in between, which was a good place. So hopefully when I see it on the screen, it came off well."
