The Cast of Fame

There are a lot of people who are fans of the original movie. How does this one compare to that?

Kristy Flores: "I feel this movie is an epic movie. It kind of transforms the new generation. It's Fame, but a new generation. The older crowd will love it as well as the new crowd."

Anna Maria Perez de Tagle: "It's very much inspired by the original but you wouldn't have had to see the original to see this one because it's brand new. "

People who have seen the original, are they going to see a lot of references in this one – a lot of the same type of characters?

Paul Iacono: "You know, basically they took a lot of the ideas and motifs of the original film – which is a masterpiece, and we're not taking anything away from that – and then we sort of spun it on its head a little bit, put in a modern day world with modern day characters, modern day problems. You know, we keep it very authentic. We keep it gritty and real. A lot of us actually went to performing art high schools or something similar to that so we really have lived this life. And we're all beyond excited because it's the real deal for us. I mean this is Fame, it doesn't get better than that. And each of us this amazing story about how we got to here. It's all very authentic and I think that's what makes it such a special project."

How important is it to you guys at your age that musicals are coming back and kids your age are actually getting into them?

Walter Perez: "I think it's kind of crazy that all these musicals are coming up. It's just like all these musicals that are coming up, I think that everyone's really excited about every single one of them. All the musicals that have come up that have been remade have been very successful. We're hoping that Fame is just another one."

Paul Iacono: "I think that Hugh Jackman said it best at the Oscars this past year. I mean the musical is back and it's not just back but it's new. And Fame is going to set the standard for what the new musical of today needs to be. Let us say that just now. September 25th, 2009."

You're really laying that down there.

Paul Iacono: "You know I am."

It better kick ass at the box office or you're going to be in trouble personally.

Paul Iacono: "You can hold me personally responsible."

Tell me why people need to go see musicals? Why do we need to support them at the box office?

Collins Pennie: "You need to support musicals because they inspire dreams. It has everything. It has music, it has acting, it has dancing. It's fun – and singing."

You were in one of my favorite shows - So You Think You Can Dance - and you were awesome. What's it like to transition into movies?

Kherington Payne: "Crazy, but fun. A little hectic but it was definitely life-changing."

More work to be in a movie than it was to be on that show?

Kherington Payne: "Definitely, but it was awesome."

Tell me about your director on this. What was he like on the set?

Asher Book: "Kevin Tancharoen was such a…"

They were talking about you. Before you walked up they were saying really nasty things about you.

Kevin Tancharoen: "I bet. Well, little do they know I'm still editing the movie."

How do you divide this up? It's a huge ensemble cast. How do you give them time to develop?

Kevin Tancharoen: "I mean, we actually cast this movie very well because everyone has a very individual talent. They all bring real good acting skills at the same time. Everyone utilizes everyone else's storyline to help elevate each other. It almost tells the same story, just different sides of it. So everyone kind of helps each other out and elevates the whole storyline to a different level. "

And are you promising that Fame fans are going to love this new Fame?

Kevin Tancharoen: "Absolutely. I promise it. It's very true and holds the same integrity that the first one has."
