Transcript: Friday the 13th - Jonathan Sadowski and Arlen Escarpeta

Rebecca Murray from About.com Hollywood Movies at the LA Premiere of Friday the 13th.

Jonathan Sadowski – 'Wade' in Friday the 13th

Tell me why we still love Jason. Why is this guy still around in movies and scaring the crap out of us?

Jonathan Sadowski: "Friday the 13th, a lot of people don't know, it's the second largest movie franchise in history behind James Bond. And when people like Michael Bay got involved in this movie, it's kind of hard to pass that up, you know? And the team he put together with the cast and the director, and the director of photography, it's taking an icon of fright from your childhood and making it modern and bringing it up to date. And you can't pass that by."

And why is it the perfect date movie?

Jonathan Sadowski: "Everybody loves to take a girl to a Valentine's Day movie or. The guy wants the girl to grab onto his arm during the movie, and it happens to be Valentine's weekend. Look it, guys, trust me – take a girl to see this movie."

Arlen Escarpeta – 'Lawrence' in Friday the 13th

Why are we so fascinated with Jason?

Arlen Escarpeta: "I think the franchise when it started, number one, they started off just great. They shot out of the cannon, and it's lived this long because the characters are great. People love these kind of movies. And I think, you know what? As actors we have a great time working on them. I love my cast. I love the producers. I love the director. I'm so excited about it. I mean, I'm beside myself right now. I really, really am."

So you're the comic relief in this one, right?

Arlen Escarpeta: "Yeah, which is funny because you guys know me as the dramatic, 'To be or not to be, that is the question,' guy. I'm multi-dimensional. I'm multi-faceted. I got to stretch my comedic muscles a lot in here. We went off book. You'll see – it's good stuff."

So you did do a lot of improv?

Arlen Escarpeta: "Oh yeah. Myself and my friend Aaron [Yoo], we play best friends in the movie, we sat together and we said, 'You know what? If no one loves this movie, we had a great time shooting this, right?' And I was like, 'Yeah!'"

I'm not going to give away any spoilers but I know that most people in Friday the 13th movies die. Are there some really good death scenes in this?

Arlen Escarpeta: "Without a doubt, unequivocally absolutely. Trust me. They had the New York Black Carpet premiere – the reviews are ridiculous. And for me, that's what makes me say we did a good job because whether I liked the movie or not is secondary. It's really for the fans. It's for the audience. Anyone who knows the series, if you watch the movie you're going to find little bits of pieces that you can say, 'I remember that from that movie. I remember that from #1. I remember that from #4,' for the diehard fans. For the guys who've never seen it before, you're going to love it just the same."

What do you have coming up next?

Arlen Escarpeta: "I've got Dough Boys coming out in March in BET. I have Roslyn that's going to be hitting the film festival circuit this year. And I'm producing a film called 818 this year as well, so I'm staying very busy."
