Jackie Earle Haley - 'Freddy Krueger' in A Nightmare on Elm Street
I haven't seen you in a while. It's good to see you again. So taking over a character that was made famous by somebody else, that's adding a little weight to your shoulders. Do you feel that while you're doing it?
Jackie Earle Haley: "You know, it definitely adds some weight because you know there's a lot of Robert [Englund] fans, and rightfully so. The guy has owned this character for a couple of decades. In playing the guy I definitely had to reach a point where I had to take that and put it on the shelf or else it would just... It's a re-envision. We've gone back in time and we're kind of re-doing that very first movie. It's different; it's got some new points to it. But we're definitely paying homage to that. It's going to be darker. Freddy's a little more serious, maybe a little more pissed off. And so hopefully people will dig it. It's a remake. It's a redux. It's a reboot."
Do we see more of his backstory? I know there's a lot of debate on the internet over do we see more and do we want to see more.
Jackie Earle Haley: "You know, I think we definitely see a little bit more of his backstory but not to the point where it labors it down. It's kind of like in the first one - they talked about it. In this one we just get to see a little bit of it, instead of talking about it. And it's kind of cool."
