Rebecca Murray from About.com Hollywood Movies at the World Premiere of He's Just Not That Into You.
Drew Barrymore – 'Mary' in He's Just Not That Into You
Of all the characters you could pick, why did you choose Mary?Drew Barrymore: "Well, you know, a couple of reasons. One was timing. I was in the middle of directing my film and it was sort of like the best part for me. Also, I really identified with her the most. That's sort of where I'm at in my life and so I was happy to play someone that I totally understood. I would call the writers all the time and say, 'You know I'd really love to talk about how confused I am with technology.' This is a new era. This is a new generation. I'm used to the old one. I remember Radio Shack and tapes that you could pull out or save and replay, and you had one phone. And god when you could call in and check your messages it was like, 'Awww!' So this new era is confusing to me and I wanted to be someone who talked about that, so it was just a perfect fit."
What grabbed your interest in the story as a producer?
Drew Barrymore: "Well, my partner when she said she wanted to make a film version of this and she said, 'I never want to say the title in the film,' I just thought that, 'Okay, that's so un-lazy and so classy.' She also just has the best relationship advice of any human being I've ever met so I thought, 'Well, that's who should be making a movie about relationship advice to people.' And it's a movie that's really based in reality. It's not fantastical. It's what we all go through. It's about men, it's about women, it's about finding love, how do you maintain, what do you do when it's gone… It's what we go through. It's relatable and it's human."
Rod Keller – 'Bruce' in He's Just Not That Into You
Tell me about working on this film with its huge cast.Rod Keller: "Huge cast – very fun. The day I was cast I went online to kind of see like what did I get myself into. And they had just posted the cast list on IMDB.com and my jaw hit the ground. It was really late at night and I was around my apartment like, 'Awwww! I can't believe it!' I think it's a testament to the script. The script is so good. It was so cute and funny and warm, and I think that's what got all these big stars to come and do it. Plus Drew. I play Drew's best friend at work and I'm kind of helping her navigate online dating and giving her support. And she's just having the hardest time, you know? I think it's a testament to her too that she got all these people involved because she creates such a great environment. Working on the set, it was a dream. It was a dream."
