David Zayas from Dexter and The Expendables
Okay, I have to admit that I'm not a Dexter freak, but my camera person is. She gave me the DVDs and told me I have to watch them. Why do I have to watch the show? Why does everybody love this show so much?
David Zayas: "The question is why haven't you watched the show?"
I've been busy...No time.
David Zayas: "Do you watch other shows?"
David Zayas: "All right. It's actually a very interesting show. I think you're going to enjoy it. It's about this serial killer who happens to work for the Miami Metro Police Department. And he kills other bad people. No one knows that he's got a secret life - like most of us do."
Who do you play?
David Zayas: "I play Angel Batista who works alongside of him in the police department."
And you have no idea that he kills people?
David Zayas: "No, I have no idea."
So you're really not that good at your job?
David Zayas: "It's okay because as long as I'm not good at my job, I stay on my job. You know what I'm saying? No, he's actually very good in covering his tracks. He's a forensic specialist. He knows what to do."
So maybe there are really people like him out there.
David Zayas: "Maybe. It could be you."
No, I'd be terrible at it. And The Expendables - that one looks pretty cool.
David Zayas: "Yeah, I had a lot of fun doing that."
David Zayas: "Action-filled with Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham... It's going to be fun. It's going to be a fun movie."
So what do you do in that?
David Zayas: "I play a dictator of a South American country that they're trying to overthrow. It's a fun role."
A dictator - so did you study for that?
David Zayas: "I did. I checked out a lot of these dictators like Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, Idi Amin, all these bigger than life leaders of their country at that particular time to see what kind of persona, what kind of vibe that they carried, you know? And then I tried to put my own thing in it. It was fun."
Is he a very cruel guy?
David Zayas: "I wouldn't say that. He's a really intense guy."
What was it like working with Sylvester Stallone?
David Zayas: "He's great. He knows exactly what he wants. He's got so much energy. He looks great, and it was great to work with him. He's one of my idols growing up and watching all the Rockys and seeing how talented he is and how driven he is. It was great to work with him."
And what brings you out to Final Destination?
David Zayas: "I love these kind of movies. I do. I'm a horror fanatic. All these movies I try and go out and check out because I just love it ever since I was a kid. This one is in 3-D. How can you go wrong?"
