Dan Fogler - 'Gribble' in Mars Needs Moms

You're a physical comedian, what's it like to be on a set where they're capturing every single bit of your movement?

Dan Fogler: "It's a joy. It's kind of like...well, once you get past the tight outfit and the heavy helmet and all these little technical things that go into the process, then it's really incredibly liberating, freeing experience. It's like very high tech theatre. I had a great time. I realized the looser I am, the better that this is going to sell this thing being live."

And they didn't have to any set-ups in between so you could keep going. Does that help you or hurt you?

Dan Fogler: "Well, once you get in the groove, you want to keep going. And a lot of time in live-action it's just hurry up and wait. You have a lot of down time and then at like 3 o'clock in the morning they're like, 'Okay, are you ready for your big scene?' You know, and you're just like [blabbering]. This is just like a snap. We finished like a week and a half early."

I read in the production notes that you and Seth Green were doing some kung fu in between shots.

Dan Fogler: "Yeah."

What's up with that?

Dan Fogler: "Well we were doing a lot of our stunts and harness work and wire work. So in between takes we would do Matrix movies. The guys would pull us and we'd be flipping and kicking each other. It was fun."

Will we get to see that on the DVD?

Dan Fogler: "Yeah, there's got to be some outtakes in there. Yeah."

Is this a process that you would do again? Has it sold you on motion capture?

Dan Fogler: "I loved it. I come from a theatre background and it was a pleasure to just be able to play whole scenes out and not have to chop it up. I really enjoyed it."

Are you a believer in aliens?

Dan Fogler: "I haven't seen any...recently. But I think it would be weird that we're the only living organisms in this gigantic multiverse."

Is this movie just for kids? Are adults going to get something out of it?

Dan Fogler: "Absolutely. There's moments in it where you feel like you're in an intense action movie. It's like Die Hard meets Star Wars in a lot of ways. And it's really funny, and it's got a heart. I was crying at the end of this. A lot of people do, I think. Anyone with a mom gets choked up at the end of this movie."
