Malin Akerman – 'Ronnie' in Couples Retreat

This is a lot different from your Watchmen role.

Malin Akerman: "Yes, a lot different."

You're a mom.

Malin Akerman: "Yeah, a mom of two, which I'm a 31 year old woman – I could have two kids at this point."

You don't look 31.

Malin Akerman: "Thank you. Love you."

Was it tough to play a mom? That's so different.

Malin Akerman: "No. You know, I'm the oldest of three siblings so I've pretty much played the role of mom for many, many years. So, not at all. I'm ready to have my own kids. Just got to hold off another year or two, but I'm ready!"

Good for you. The guys in this all knew each other but the women were all newcomers. How tough was that for you to bond?

Malin Akerman: "You know, it actually wasn't tough at all. All the guys were so open. It could have gone the other way where it's a clique and they do their thing. But this was really…it was such a collaborative effort. Everyone was really interested in your ideas, your thoughts, and what you wanted to do with your character. It was just a really nice experience. I was kind of shocked at how easy – not that I expected it to be hard, but you just always are. You never know what to expect and it was just such a wonderful surprise."

And there's lots of improv so what that kind of fun for you?

Malin Akerman: "I love improv."

Do you?

Malin Akerman: "Absolutely. I love it because I'm so dyslexic so learning lines is just torture. But we did a lot of the improv before we actually started shooting. So Vince [Vaughn] and I would go through all the scenes and flesh them out and just do our improv and go, 'Yeah, that works. That works.' And then we would kind of write it into the script. Dana Fox would be there writing. And so most of the improv was beforehand and then a little bit on the day."

Jonna Walsh – 'Lacey' in Couples Retreat

You get to play a daughter.

Jonna Walsh: "I know, it's awesome. It was really cool."

What was it like on the set?

Jonna Walsh: "Funny. It was a bunch of comedians so it was a really good time. We just laughed a lot."

They have to be serious sometime, right?

Jonna Walsh: "They are sometimes, but it's a comedy so we're all just throwing around jokes."

Everybody says this is full of improv. Did you get to do any improv?

Jonna Walsh: "Yes. I did. Vince Vaughn, he's like throwing things at me to say so it's like, 'Okay,' and trying to keep up with it. But I did, so it was really fun."

Could you tell [Peter Billingsley] was a first time director?

Jonna Walsh: "No. I didn't know that until later. He's a really cool person."

What else are you working on?

Jonna Walsh: "I'm working on a movie called Bones. I just finished it a couple of months ago. I play opposite Jimmy Bennett."

Is it scary?

Jonna Walsh: "It's a little scary."

Because he's always in scary movies.

Jonna Walsh: "I know, Jimmy is. He's awesome. It's definitely a drama. It's a little bit like a modern day Outsiders. It's got some really great people in it - Melissa Ordway, Jesse James, and, of course, Jimmy Bennett. It's an awesome movie."
