Clifton Collins Jr from The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day and Brothers

You've got like a million movies coming up…

Clifton Collins Jr: "That many?"

Boondock Saints II, Brothers, there's a massive list. Which one are you most excited about, or can you narrow it down?

Clifton Collins Jr: "You know what? I said this recently, films are like your kids, you know? It's like, 'I love little Bobby better than Billy.' But you put so much into it that you can't not like something that you put that much into and you care about. You're comparing like Jim Sheridan who I think is incredibly brilliant. I was a huge fan of all of his films. I mean, look at this man's body of work. And then to do like such a sensational follow-up, or a follow-up to such a sensational first film - Boondock Saints - with Troy Duffy…"

Which everyone is so excited about seeing this follow-up.

Clifton Collins Jr: "Yeah. It's exciting. I play one of the new saints. I play Romeo. When people were making fun of my long hair, like, 'Oh, bad hair day,' that's this. Bad hair day? I'm going to come at you with two 45s. It's crazy."

What do you play in Brothers?

Clifton Collins Jr: "Brothers, I play a commanding officer. I have to debrief Tobey Maguire when he comes back from his… Well, you'll see."

Because one of [the brothers] is supposed to be dead.

Clifton Collins Jr: "Yeah, it's a really beautiful tale. And then working with Sheridan. I mean, Jake Gyllenhaal who I got to know a little bit during the whole Capote, Brokeback Mountain period. And then Natalie Portman is gorgeous and fun to work with. She's also fun to work with – she's frigging hot. And then of course Sam Shepard and it's Jim Sheridan. I just wanted to ask him stories. 'Tell me about The Boxer.'"

Were you brave enough to do that?

Clifton Collins Jr: "Yeah. Well I was working with him pretty close. We had some really intense scenes. Just to listen to the man speak, it's like, 'Just talk, Jim.'"

I interviewed him one time and he started asking me questions. I wanted to hear about him.

Clifton Collins Jr: "I believe it."

What else are you working on?

Clifton Collins Jr: "Well I just signed on to Southland. I play Regina King's partner."

Do you have time for TV?

Clifton Collins Jr: "I'm making time for TV. This is the kind of show you want to make time for. Southland is amazing. The show runners and John Wells, it's like I haven't had this much creative fulfillment on a TV show ever."

It's gritty and I like that they bleep things.

Clifton Collins Jr: "They bleep out the curse words, they shoot in real neighborhoods with real gangs. I got a call from Chino recently, from one of my friends over in Chino, and I told him I was in Southland and he was like, 'No way, man! They shoot in real neighborhoods.' They love Southland because it's all based on so many real things, and the kind of characters I usually like to do are usually based on something pretty real. So to have an opportunity, to be given that kind of creative freedom, is really… I can't say how happy I am. I feel really blessed to be on the show with that talent."
