Carla Gugino - Sucker Punch
Tell me about working with Zack Snyder again.Carla Gugino: "Working with Zack is...He is one of my favorite directors on the planet, and he and Debbie create this incredible family - and it's family of really creative people so the entire crew, every single department is at the top of their game and they know that so there's this wonderful kind of very strong vision of what he wants, but then also a ton of freedom for the artists to be able to play and discover and find things. And I loved it so much on Watchmen and it felt so fast, so I was so happy to be able come back in and dig in and get to be able to play another character with him."
He writes such good female characters. How was that?
Carla Gugino: "Yeah, he really does. I mean, well this woman that I play, yeah, she is very strong and she's also very damaged and very complex. I think that's the cool thing is none of these characters are one-dimensional by any means. It was interesting because I play a psychiatrist in the 1960s and then also a dominatrix choreographer/madame in a brothel so it's like two total alter egos. But in both, there's a sort of a fight within herself about what she's had to endure in her own life. So therefore she's pretty darn tough love, and at the same time that she has this genuine love for these girls and so she will protect them fiercely. And the way it manifests is just really cool. You know, also we have Michael Wilkinson who did Watchmen as well and is just one of the most extraordinary costume designers, and Logan and Dave who are the physical trainers who are - again - the best of the best. What's so exciting is it's sort of like about everybody digging in and being in this bubble and creating something that we all believe in, so nobody's going to punch a timecard. Everybody is super passionate and that's really amazing."
If you could be any comic book character or superhero who is your fantasy?
Carla Gugino: "See, these are the things I should plan before I come to Comic Con, right? I don't have an answer in my back pocket. Catwoman is always my fav, I have to say. Love Catwoman."
