Carla Gugino - 'Dr Vera Gorski' in Sucker Punch
Zack, the second time around, how was it this time?
Carla Gugino: "You know, it was amazing. I love working with him so much. I would work with him whenever I'm asked to. You know, he's such a collaborator, he has such a strong vision for what he wants, and he welcomes everything. He welcomes kind of everything that everyone has to offer, and I always take that as a sign of a very confident director. Because in the end of the day, anything you offer will only make it better, but a lot of times insecure directors don't do that. But Zack is just, 'Bring it on. Let's do this together.' And you also feel like you're in really confident hands."
And this time around it's a more female-oriented cast than his usual films. Does he handle a female set differently than he handles a male set?
Carla Gugino: "You know what? It's interesting because I did Watchmen with him and we were men and women, obviously, maybe a few more men than women and this is obviously more women than men, but the truth of the matter is no. I think Zack just basically is so driven to tell the story that he wants to tell, and in this case it was a lot of women and he got a lot of great women, and so he was just about celebrating that. Like, I love that 300 - they are totally different movies but if you were to kind of compare 300 and Sucker Punch, they're both kind of great embodiments of all thing man on one hand and all things women on the other, and I kind of love that."
And you got to work with penguins [on Mr Popper's Penguins].
Carla Gugino: "You can't not smile when you're with a penguin! It's crazy. I think that will be a really beautiful family movie."
Scott Glenn - 'Wise Man' in Sucker Punch
You told me before that Zack Snyder is an amazing director to work with. Why is that?
Scott Glenn: "He has such a specific vision and yet when you're working with him he lets you find... It's almost like he said, 'I want you to get from here to there but you do it your own way, you find your own way up there.'"
Even in a movie like this where it's effects-heavy, you can still do that?
Scott Glenn: "Oh yeah, absolutely. Yeah, absolutely."
From looking at the trailers I'm confused as to what this movie is about.
Scott Glenn: "I asked Zack. I said, 'How do I describe this movie?' He said, 'Combination of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Alice in Wonderland and Moulin Rouge on acid with machine guns."
What are you working on next?
Scott Glenn: "We're going to New York. We have a film in the Tribeca Film Festival called Magic Valley, a little indie that we're all really excited about. [It's about] a day in the life of a lot of people that live in a small town in Idaho, and how their lives change with the death of a kid."
And since you love working with Zack Snyder so much, is he writing you a part in Superman?
Scott Glenn: "Ask him."
Would you be excited to do the Superman movie?
Scott Glenn: "I'd be excited to do anything that Zack feels like doing."
