Cam Gigandet - 'Hicks' in Priest
Tell me about playing this character.
Cam Gigandet: "It's my girlfriend who gets kidnapped and so I actually recruit the help of Priest [played by Paul Bettany]. And at first I kind of think I'm in the lead and have taken charge, and that quickly turns. In the scene that you actually saw in Nightshade is where kind of my first experience with these vampires. Whereas Priest and Maggie, they are plenty experienced so I get a learning lesson quickly."
You had some pretty killer stunts in this. How tough was that for you?
Cam Gigandet: "You know, it wasn't tough. You know, fortunately I didn't have to do a lot of stunts. My character, he's beginning and so he doesn't really... He gets his butt kicked a lot but aside from that, the hardest thing that I had to do on the movie was I had to hold a gun up and the gun was like 10 pounds. And so in the beginning of the scene I'm up here and then by the end my hand was shaking. That was my hardest stunt."
And they made you do that lots of times?
Cam Gigandet: "Yeah, over and over and over."
And you have a killer motorcycle in this too.
Cam Gigandet: "I know, right? And that was one of the perks of the job was I got to learn how to ride a motorcycle."
But you didn't get to take it home with you?
Cam Gigandet: "Unfortunately not."
So what sets this movie apart from every other movie with vampires?
Cam Gigandet: "God, I haven't really seen a vampire movie like this I guess. You know, aside from there being so much action it's not so much about the vampires per se, it's more about these three people on this journey to save someone they love. And so that kind of sets it apart, I guess. I don't know. It's not really a vampire movie. It's a thriller, it's a sci-fi, it's action."
It has a lot of different genres mixed in.
Cam Gigandet: "It really does."
How was working with director Scott Stewart?
Cam Gigandet: "Scott is a visionary. I mean, he really is. I don't know how he had seen some of the things that he'd seen. Even when we're shooting a scene, he'll try to explain what it'll end up as or what it'll look like and then when I even saw it last night I was like, 'Oh my god.' You just have no idea how amazing it'll end up as when you're acting shooting."
And that was the first time you saw that footage in 3D?
Cam Gigandet: "Yeah, of course."
And your reaction was?
Cam Gigandet: "It was unbelievable. It really was."
