Bryce Dallas Howard didn't have to worry about her weight on 'Terminator Salvation' as her character, Kate, is pregnant. But on the black carpet at the film's US premiere, Howard looked absolutely gorgeous as she chatted up the action-heavy film.

Bryce Dallas Howard - 'Kate Connor' in Terminator Salvation
You do look gorgeous, and you don't get to look gorgeous in the movie because you are walking around pregnant. What was that like to play?Bryce Dallas Howard: "Well it was great because I'd just had my son. So, actually when McG offered me the part I was so excited. But then I was like, 'I just had a baby. I'm not in great shape.' And he's like, 'That's okay, you're eight months pregnant.' So it was kind of one of those perfect moments. And he was throwing cookies at me during shooting. It was great - a great job."
Were you a huge Terminator fan prior to this?
Bryce Dallas Howard: "Absolutely. Yeah. It's great because whenever I've told some of my friends that I'm in this film, most of them are Terminator fans which is really exciting. But I just love this franchise. The parts of the movies that I was most personally intrigued by was when there was little glimpses of the future. So it's very exciting to be in the film that takes place in 2018 and see the Resistance be put together and see what it took for John Connor to save humanity."
Being a Terminator fan, how surreal is it to be on a set and be with a Terminator?
Bryce Dallas Howard: "Crazy. Like totally crazy. Also because I was cast only a few days before I started shooting so it was like this whirlwind moment where I just felt like I just ended up on a Terminator set. I was like, 'Did I win a contest or am I in the movie?' I mean, yeah, fantastic."
And McG as a director?
Bryce Dallas Howard: "He's so exceptional. Oh my god, he's great. He's a great filmmaker and as a human being and as a leader, he's brilliant. He's brilliant."
So there was never a point where you were worried the effects would overdo the character?
Bryce Dallas Howard: "No. He was a psychology major and actually I think he was going to be a psychologist - like he got his degree and everything. And so he's obsessed with the human mind and obsessed with character, and what causes people to make certain decisions. That was always the most important thing for him."
And with all female characters in a Terminator, she's a very strong woman. Is it refreshing to play that kind of character?
Bryce Dallas Howard: "Yeah. That's kind of what this franchise is famous for is obviously the character of Sarah Connor, played by Linda Hamilton. What's great is that in this film there are two female characters - Moon Bloodgood and myself - and I feel like we play like different versions of the Sarah Connor role. I mean there's the maternal character and then there's the woman who's just plain kicking butt - which is Moon Bloodgood."
