Brittany Daniel - 'Candice' in Skyline
Tell me about working on this because they didn't use a lot of green screen. What was actually there?Brittany Daniel: "Well we actually shot in one of the director's condos in Marina Del Rey. It's so random. But the whole side of his condo is all windows so we would be looking out at basically the city skyline. That's what we were looking at. We were looking at nothing. They're like, 'Okay, so pretend that alien's the Carl's Jr sign over there. That's your eye line.' I'm like, 'Oh, great.'"
Did you see storyboards or anything?
Brittany Daniel: "They did show us some kind of computer generated visuals so we had an idea of what the monster aliens looked like, but we had to use our imagination for the most part."
That's kind of fun.
Brittany Daniel: "It was fun, I have to say. I think we all surprised ourselves. We're like, 'Wow, we really were actually kind of believable when we weren't looking at anything.'"
Do you get to fight or do you run? What does your character do?
Brittany Daniel: "I fight and run and I do a lot of stunt stuff with cars."
Was that fun for you because you don't usually do stunt stuff?
Brittany Daniel: "It was so scary for me because it was such a low budget film we couldn't really afford a lot of people to help with that kind of thing. I had to drive the directors' cars. We were driving all their fancy cars. I was like, 'Please don't let me crash this Lamborghini!' So it was a little scary."
You used his condo, you used his cars, did you guys ever wreck anything? Is he still your friend after all this?
Brittany Daniel: "I don't think... The funny thing is that we were actually in Greg Strause's condo and he's so anal that he had us wear all these little slippers around the house so we wouldn't scratch up his floors. I'm like, 'What are you doing? You're the most anal person I know. Why would you ever have a film crew in your house?' I think we banged up a couple of walls but nothing too major."
You all fight together against the aliens. What did you do to bond?
Brittany Daniel: "We didn't actually have any dressing rooms. We had one room that was the production office, where we did hair and makeup, where we ate, where we hung out. It was one room so we hung out all the time, so we definitely bonded. No one was going off to their dressing room."
When you look at the trailer it doesn't look like a low-budget film, but this was barebones, right?
Brittany Daniel: "The thing is that it was a low-budget movie but because the Strause brothers are amazing visual effects guys, they were able to put tons, millions of dollars worth of visual effects into this movie."
