Ben Stiller – 'Comedy of the Year' Award Winner for Tropic Thunder
Congratulations on Comedy of the Year.
Ben Stiller: "Thank you very much. It's very nice."
How is it to be honored by something right here in Hollywood?
Ben Stiller: "It's great. Usually I have to go very far away to get honored for anything. No, it's really nice. It's nice to see comedy get an honor. It's a good thing."
How much extra stuff did you do for the DVD?
Ben Stiller: "For Tropic Thunder? There's a lot because we shot a lot of footage. There's a whole alternate ending. There's a lot of unreleased footage. There's a director's cut. There's a whole documentary about the making of the making of the movie. That's sort of like a fake documentary about the making of a fake movie. There's a lot of stuff. Hours and hours. There's Tom's makeup test in the movie where he first started dancing for the first time."
And that was his idea?
Ben Stiller: "Yeah, yeah, that was Tom. You can't show Tom Cruise moves. He's got the moves inside of him. …He got into the makeup and he had a feeling for the character that he felt like he wanted to dance as this guy. And he started doing the stuff when we were doing the makeup tests, and it just happened organically. "
What was it like working with your kids on Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa?
Ben Stiller: "You know what? They came in and out. They did a little bit. I think they lasted about 90 seconds and then they were done with it, which I totally understand."
Are you a fan of kids getting into the business?
Ben Stiller: "I think it's good for kids to go out on auditions at a very young age, preferably as infants. Get the head shots made up. I think the rejection is good at a young age, just to toughen them up. So we'll be sending them out a lot."
