Bella Thorne - 'CeCe' in Shake It Up
So how does it feel to be anointed the next Miley Cyrus?Bella Thorne: "I think that's really an unfair comparison because Miley Cyrus is a teen icon who's done all these extraordinary things, and I'm just Bella. I'm just a 13 year old girl trying to do what I love best. And I think the only thing I have in common with any of the other Disney girls is we all love and try to cherish and make all of our fans happy. We're always going to give back to the community."
Shake It Up! had amazing numbers right out of the box. Is that a little pressure on your shoulders now, knowing you have a big fan following out there?
Bella Thorne: "I don't think it's pressure because Zendaya and I have been waiting so long for this, and we are so lucky and blessed to be in our talented cast. Disney, they just picked us, so basically it's all just luck. I think that it's really..."
Luck, but talent too. You have to have talent too or you wouldn't have been picked. So why should people be watching the show? If they didn't catch the first one, what's coming up?
Bella Thorne: "Well we have the second episode that actually premieres tonight at 8:30 is an episode about Zendaya and I eating a 40 pound meatball because CeCe, which is my character, gets them into trouble and gets them into this whole pickle and they get debt cards... It's basically that episode is about them dealing with these issues."
Are you normally a troublemaker?
Bella Thorne: "On the show? Yes."
Is that kind of fun to play?
Bella Thorne: "Yeah, yeah. I guess it's funny."
Are you normally a troublemaker in real life.
Bella Thorne: "No."
So the character's not you?
Bella Thorne: "Oh no, the character, everything besides that troublemaking is me because she doesn't... It's not that she means to get them in trouble. She under-thinks her plans and Rocky over-thinks their plans. So basically they're perfect for each other to be best friends because they're opposites and opposites attract. So, she doesn't mean to get them in trouble but she really doesn't think plans out. And me, I would say I do both. Sometimes I'm like, 'Okay. Wait... No. What are you talking about?'"
Zendaya Coleman - 'Rocky' in Shake It Up
The show had fantastic ratings right out of the box. How are you going to live up to that all season long?Zendaya Coleman: "Well I think all I can do is try my best and keep putting out 100% and hopefully that will be enough."
Tell me about working on the show. How easy was it to get together with [Bella Thorne]?
Zendaya Coleman: "I love her. She's just like my other half, I guess you could say. She's like my sister now. She's like my little sis. We're together all the time and I've grown to just love her."
So being together all the time, you've got to get on each other's nerves occasionally, right?
Zendaya Coleman: "Not really. I mean it's kind of like we just have so much fun that it's not even something that comes to our mind. We don't even deal with that because we're having so much fun all the time that what is there to complain about? What is there to be upset about?"
Tell me a little bit about the show. For people who didn't catch the first episode, what's it about?
Zendaya Coleman: "Well, the show is called Shake It Up and it's about Rocky and CeCe, two best friends that love each other so much. And it's basically about their dream to become professional dancers and they finally get the opportunity when they get to audition for their favorite dance show called Shake It Up Chicago. So it's kind of about their adventures on the show, all the crazy adventures they get into, and just enjoying everything."
Is dancing a dream of yours?
Zendaya Coleman: "Yes. Definitely, definitely a dream of mine. I mean I love to dance, I love to sing, I love to act. I love the arts, basically. I love to draw. I love everything."
If you had to rank them, would it be acting first, dancing second?
Zendaya Coleman: "I don't know. I don't know if I could rate them just because they're equal parts of me and without them I wouldn't be who I am."
