Amanda Seyfried - 'Savannah' in Dear John
I love the relationships in this, including your relationship with Richard Jenkins. Can you talk about that?Amanda Seyfried: "Yeah, I mean, it's not hard. Richard Jenkins is a true actor in that he really does play every character 100%. So, no, that was just fun hanging out, chillin' with him, and showing that that relationship between Savannah and his dad is really important, and showing how much she loves John. She just wants to be with his extension."
Were you okay with the alternate ending that was just shot?
Amanda Seyfried: "I am. I was really confused when they called me three weeks ago and said they wanted to do a reshoot three weeks before the movie comes out. But, hey, it works. I am pleased."
What was your best Valentine's Day and your worst?
Amanda Seyfried: "I'm boring, I'll tell you that. The best Valentine's Day was I can't remember, and I never had a bad one. Oh, I think in fifth grade I didn't get a Valentine's Day card from the guy I liked. It's so boring – I'm sorry. I don't actually celebrate it."
You have a beautiful song in this – it's being released, right?
Amanda Seyfried: "It's on the soundtrack. That was weird. I had written a song…I'm pretending to be a songwriter and I wrote a song when I was by myself at my piano. I do it a lot, but I never take any of it seriously. I needed a song for Lasse [Hallstrom] because he wanted to put something in the montage without sound. And they ended up using sound, and they ended up using that clip on the montage and it's in the movie. And then Happy Walters, the music supervisor, asked me to record it in the studio, and it just all came barreling down. Yeah, it's interesting. I wasn't looking for it. But thanks, I like singing."
How was working with Lasse?
Amanda Seyfried: "He's amazing. He's really gentle. He's really funny, and you don't expect that. He's got this Swiss sense of humor. He's ridiculous. He's like the funniest person I know. He looks for subtleties, which is what I do almost to a fault. I mean I can be too subtle sometimes. He likes it slow and real. It was just the best."
Leslea Fisher - 'Susan' in Dear John
Leslea Fisher: "It was just the best. All we did was laugh."You're not supposed to laugh the whole time. This is a serious movie.
Leslea Fisher: "This is a sad movie, but I'm going to go in there and I'm going to see stuff and I'm going to be laughing because I have memories. But no, everybody was just so much fun to work with and playing jokes on each other. It was so light and free and carefree. It was a great time."
Playing jokes on each other? Can you name one?
Leslea Fisher: "Channing used to dress up like certain people, producers and certain people on the crew, and imitate them. And it was spot on – it was amazing."
D.J. Cotrona - 'Noodles' in Dear John
D.J. Cotrona: "Channing, he's a great guy. He's a consummate professional. He's a great actor. He's a dork, in the best possible way. He's a goofball. The military stuff that we shot didn't take too long. It was pretty quick. But we all got along really, really well. We had a really good time."So were you part of the ABBA video that they did? [Director Lasse Hallstrom directed the ABBA music videos]
D.J. Cotrona: "I was, yeah."
What did you do?
D.J. Cotrona: "I grabbed…I tried to dance with one of the prop guys. I don't know if that made the final video – no, it did make the final video. It did. And I tried to do like a bad robot. I had bullet wounds and I was doing like a bad robot at one point. Not my best moment. Not my proudest moment."
Are we going to see this on the DVD?
D.J. Cotrona: "I hope not. I hope it's buried in a locker at the bottom of the ocean. But that's just me."
