Alice Parkinson - 'Victoria' in Sanctum
Tell me about working on this and being one of the few women in this male cast.Alice Parkinson: "I feel really comfortable in that kind of a role. I feel like a bit of a tomboy, despite my get-up this evening."
You really don't look like a tomboy.
Alice Parkinson: "That's right, but there's a man in there somewhere, I'm sure. So yeah, I feel very comfortable around a bunch of guys, and these guys were fantastic to work with. It was great to train together and go through the whole kind of experience together so that it was... The days when it was particularly grueling, you could look around and everyone else was feeling the same way so you kind of went, 'Oh, okay, right.'"
You have all this equipment on in the film, how difficult was it to act underneath all of that?
Alice Parkinson: "Well, ironically it's actually easier to act because you're so out of your head. You're so physically occupied, for want of a better word, that you have no choice but to just kind of do the stuff and be really organic and physical. So in a strange way I relished having that physical kind of component to the role because you have to be in the moment, for safety as much as anything else."
Were there ever any near panic moments for you?
Alice Parkinson: "Oh, sure, see if you can spot them."
Will they be easy to find?
Alice Parkinson: "Yeah, they're pretty much sign-posted. Yeah. There's kind of that thing of, 'Is she acting or not?' and you know what? I look at it and I'm not quite sure myself."
"The sets were so amazing. You were really in the world and it was just an absolute joy to be immersed in that kind of world."
The director had never done a 3D film before, do you think it was a strange experience for him - and did it affect you? Or did you even notice the 3D cameras?
Alice Parkinson: "Well, we tried not to notice. The only thing that was a little different was the setup time was a little longer and that sort of thing, otherwise it's just a regular movie. It's not what you're doing in front of the camera, it's just that what you're doing is being captured slightly differently, that's all. Otherwise it's the same deal."
And your next movie you're with sharks trapped inside a building?
Alice Parkinson: "I know. What am I doing? I'm typecasting myself. I really love this water and this survival genre. I know. I've got to find myself a desert movie. Maybe that's next."
