Hi, I’m Katherine Lee for About.com and today I’m going to talk about how to choose the right pair of sneakers for your child.
Check Sneakers for Fit and Condition
First of all, make sure that you check your child’s shoes for fit and to see if they’re worn out, check the seams and check the overall area – check the toes, check the heels, and see if they’re worn out. If they are, it’s time for a new pair of shoes.
When to Shop for Shoes
When you shops for shoes, go in the afternoon or go in the evening because our feet tend to swell over the course of a day, so shoes that fit fine in the morning, might feel a little bit tighter in the afternoon.
How Much to Spend and Where to Buy Sneakers
Don’t spend too much on shoes – you might be really tempted to buy that trendy pair of sneakers for your child, but ultimately, he might grow out of it in just a few months so it won’t be worth it.
Go to a store that specializes in kids shoes. The staff there will probably be better equipped to handle, say, kids who don’t want their feet measured and they’ll have a great selection for kids as well – and they’ll also be very expert in knowing how to measure kids shoes for the proper fit.
Don’t buy shoes that are too big for your child to grow in to. That can be problematic when they’re running down the street, or on an escalator – your child will also not comfortable and they might get blisters – so it’s definitely not worth it in the long run.
Also, make sure that your child’s sneakers have plenty of traction on the bottom so that they don’t slip when the surface is slippery or wet. Thanks for watching. For more, go to About.com.
