Transcript:How to Make Tahini Sauce

Hi, I'm Stephanie Gallagher for About.com, and today we're making tahini sauce. Let's get started.

What Is Tahini Sauce?

Just as peanut butter is not the same thing as a peanut sauce that you might use over noodles or as a dip or marinade, tahini is not the same thing as tahini sauce.

This tahini sauce recipe is a thinner style of tahini sauce that you might use for pita sandwiches, like chicken or beef schwarma.

Ingredients for Tahini Sauce

For this recipe, you will need:
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup tahini
  • 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
  • 3-4 lemons (enough to make 1/4 cup of lemon juice)
  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 1-2 Tbsp. of fresh parsley

Instructions for Making Tahini Sauce

Place the chopped garlic in a food processor. Add the tahini and the salt. Cover and process until smooth. And transfer to a mixing bowl.

Now put a strainer over a measuring cup and squeeze the lemons into it, until you get 1/4 cup of fresh lemon juice.

Add the lemon juice to the tahini. And stir in the olive oil.

If the mixture is too thick, add a little warm water. Now chop your parsley and stir that into the tahini sauce. And here's your tahini sauce.
