Hi, I'm Stephanie Gallagher for About.com, and today, we're making hummus without tahini. Let's get started.Ingredients for Making Hummus Without Tahini
For this recipe, you will need:- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1 14 to 16 oz. can chickpeas, drained except for 1/4 cup of the canning liquid - keep that with the chickpeas
- 1/4 cup of freshly-squeezed lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. peanut butter - chunky or creamy, it doesn't matter which
- 1-2 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
- black pepper, to taste
Instructions for How to Make Hummus Without Tahini
Place the garlic in a food processor. Add the chickpeas and the reserved 1/4 cup of liquid. Add the lemon juice, salt and peanut butter. Now cover and process the mixture until it's smooth, but still has a rather thick texture. This is what you're going for. Now transfer the hummus to a serving bowl, and pour the olive oil on top.
