Hi, I'm Daniel Sanz and I'm going to give you a tour of the Miami Seaquarium.

Miami Seaquarium History

Located on Virginia Key in Biscayne Bay near downtown Miami, the Miami Seaquarium is the longest running marine oceanarium in the United States. The park was founded by Fred. D. Coppock and Captain W.B. Gray, and the park first opened in 1955. It was the second marine life attraction in South Florida and, at the time, the largest marine life attraction in the world. Located in Miami-Dade County, Florida, the Miami Seaquarium is spread out on 38 acres and offers a variety of attractions such as the tropical rainforest exhibit featuring birds and reptiles, the Caribbean fish aquariums, and Discovery Bay's Upper Island known as "Crocodile Flats," home to over 20 Nile Crocodiles.

Miami Seaquarium Attractions

Adding to the list of appealing attractions are the Seaquarium's many shows and presentations. The Top Deck Dolphin show, located near the center of the park, thrills guests with impressive high flying bottlenose dolphin acrobatics and is viewable throughout anytime of the day. Next to that is the hilarious Golden Dome Sea Lion show and also the sea lion feeder pool, where guests may have the opportunity to feed these playful animals. Don't miss the amazing Killer Whale and Dolphin Show, featuring Lolita the Orca alongside exotic Pacific white sided dolphins, and even visit the Lagoon, where you can meet Flipper on the set that was home to the 1964 "Flipper" television show.

More Attractions

The Shark Channel Presentation is one of the park's oldest original attractions and allows visitors to come to admire these large fearsome animals, learn about their species and history and also watch them feed. Additional presentations include the Tropical Reef Presentation, featuring a 750,000 gallon tank teeming with a varity of fish and marine species, and the Manatee Presentation, which brings audiences face to face with Florida's signature marine mammal. Come on down to the Miami Seaquarium, which attracts 600,000 visitors a year, and where there are endless activities for the kids and attractions that will entertain the whole family.
