Hi, I'm Rachel Edelman with About.com Food. Today, I'm going to show you how to make a fresh tomato salsa.Salsa Ingredients
For this recipe, you will need:- 1 onion
- 2 cloves garlic
- 4 medium tomatoes
- 2 jalapeño peppers
- a bunch of cilantro
- 1 lime
- salt and pepper
- 2 cups water
Prepare the Salsa Oniosn
Boil the water. While you are waiting, cut off the ends of the onion. Now peel off the outer layer. Then chop it into small pieces. Measure out 3 tablespoons of onion for our salsa.Chop the Salsa Garlic
Smash the garlic with the side of your knife. You see how easily the skin comes off. Mince the garlic.Strain and Cook Onion and Garlic
Put the onion and garlic into a strainer. Pour the boiling water over the onion and garlic. Place them into a bowl and let them cool.Prepare the Salsa Tomatoes
Next, peel the tomatoes. Then, cut the tomatoes into quarters. This will allow you to remove all of the seeds easily. Chop the tomatoes into small pieces.Cut the Jalapeno
Cut off the top of the peppers. Slice them in half and then remove all of the seeds.Next mince the jalapeño by cutting it into strips and then small pieces. Remember the more jalapeno you add, the spicier the salsa will be.
Prepare the Cilantro
Take a bunch of cilantro on your cutting board. Roughly run your knife through it. Measure out 2-3 tablespoons.Mix the Salsa Ingredients
Add the tomatoes, pepper, cilantro to the onion and garlic. Roll a lime, cut it and squeeze it into the bowl. Add salt and pepper. Then mix it all up.Refrigerate the Salsa
