Transcript:Tips for Going Grey Gracefully for Men
Hello I'm Milo for About.com, and today we're talking about going grey gracefully. There are two things that I learned about going grey.
Proper Hair Care a Must When Going Grey Gracefully for Men
The first is hair care. No matter what kind of hair type you have, if you are going grey, it helps to shampoo with a special grey hair shampoo once a week or so. This specially formulated shampoo keeps the hair healthy and bright white. Otherwise the elements and aging can make the hair go yellow, which looks awful. You'll notice that the product normally is purple. Too much and your hair will have a violet tint to it. A good shampoo shouldn't let this happen.
Choose a Neat Cut When Going Grey Gracefully for Men
The second thing I learned is cut or silhouette. Scraggly, unkempt makes you look older. The key to looking great is a clean cut. I keep my hair clean on the sides and it gives me a more youthful look overall. You see Axel's hair is very thick, he can do a fuller look successfully. His overall silhouette works for him. So while his hair is longer and fuller, it works as the silhouette works.
Style Thinning Hair When Going Grey Gracefully for Men
If you are only going grey at the temples, which is normal, at first you can hide the grey by styling hair around it over it. This is an effective way of easing into grey without color and is fairly easy to do. For many men, also with greying comes the thinning of the hair. There are lots of cuts today that allow for grey and thinning, but have a youthful energy. As long as they fit with your overall personality they are fine. One idea is a faux hawk like I have.
Try Blow Drying When Going Grey Gracefully for Men
One reason this style works for me is that to do it I have to blow dry the hair against the direction it naturally lays, giving it more volume. For whatever style you have, this can add lift and shape to the hair depending on your style. Using a pomade or mud will hold it in place nicely.Another idea of dealing with thinning, grey hair is to shave it off. This look actually can be quite striking.
