Hi, I'm Kim Johnson Gross and I'm here to show you how to build a classic functional wardrobe that will keep you well dressed for a lifetime. Before You Build a Men's Wardrobe
To build a wardrobe that suits your lifestyle you need to figure out what your lifestyle needs are. Do you need to wear a suit everyday to the office? Do you have a busy social life and need to get dressed up at night? Do you play a lot of sports? Do you have the right Active Wear?Assess Your Wardrobe
After figuring out your lifestyle needs go into your closet and see what you've got. Try everything on. Make sure your clothes fit well. Make sure they're suitable for your lifestyle needs. Make sure they look good on you. Look in a full length mirror. Look at different angles. Sit down and move. Clothes that no longer fit or suit your lifestyle, give away. Now that you've gone through your closet, what's left?
Do you have what you need? What's missing?
Write a list of the clothes that you need, and take this list with you when you shop.
Shopping for a Men's Wardrobe
Don't spend a lot of money on novelty ties, shirts in trendy colors, kakis tee's or jeans. No matter what the cost don't buy it if it doesn't fit, unless you're willing to invest money in having it tailored.Basic Suit
You can't go wrong with a dark, well tailored suit, in a seasonless fabric. Dark navy is the most versatile. White shirts and solid silk ties are the dressiest. Shirts that are button down are more casual.Basic Coats
A good investment is a blazer or a sports coat to wear with tailored slacks or with kakis or jeans, and the one coat that every man needs is a versatile trench coat.Shirt Necessities
Classic polo-type shirts in cotton or wool look as good as they do under a blazer as they do on the golf courseShoes for Men's Wardrobe
Have a pair of loafers in brown and a pair of dressier tie up shoes for special occasions.Building a wardrobe is a lifetime endeavor. Keep it simple and be appropriate. Your wardrobe should always reflect your unique personality and your lifestyle.
