Transcript: How to Inject Color Into an Outfit
Hey guys - Jonathon Stewart here for About.com. Let's face it, men's fashion, for some, is an oxymoron. You've got your suit for work, and every other time it's jeans and your old Guns N Roses T-shirt. But men's outfits aren't always black and white, and in that grey area, there's a whole lot of color. Today, it's all about injecting color into an outfit. Check it out.Let's split up the outfits into three categories: business, casual, and sport. There's a whole spectrum of color infusion and it's up to you to pick how much you're comfortable using.
Inject Color Into a Suit
First: the business suit. The first thing you can change is the color of the suit itself. Now, I'm not saying go overboard here. You don't want to look like The Joker and I'm sure your boss doesn't want someone roaming the halls who looking like Huggy-Bear.Various shades of brown, tan, and grey can be great alternatives to solid black or navy. Now this is important. When you're picking out colors for your clothes, you want to make sure that they look good against your skin tone, and that they're going to match with the other clothes you'll be wearing with them. Now, how do you do this? It's a very scientific process...
A shirt and tie are great ways to add color to your outfit, either solid-colored or with colored patterns. If you decide to go with the patterns, just make sure that the shirt and tie patterns don't clash. A matching handkerchief in the suit pocket is also a great touch. Finally, don't forget matching socks. Argyles go great with colored shirts or on their own. I should stress, argyles are only effective when you wear them with pants. Argyles and shorts and, well, then you're that guy.
Inject Color Into Casual Wear
Next: casual wear. Try wearing jeans and pants in various hues and match them up with T-shirts accordingly. Another great way to subtly show color is to layer. Try wearing a colored T-shirt under a long sleeved shirt or sweater, or vice-versa. Make sure that the T-shirt you're wearing underneath is one you wouldn't be embarrassed to wear on its own. You never know when you're going to have to take your sweater off and the last thing you want to do is be stuck somewhere wearing your "I Love Menudo" shirt. Unless, of course, you really do, love Menudo.Inject Color Into Sportswear
Finally: sportswear. Here, pretty much anything goes - sports and beach wear are all about color so bright and subdued colors are all fair game. Sneakers and flip flops are also available in a variety of colors. Hats, either of your favorite sports teams or just colors you like, are also a great accessory. If you're going to be running or active, pick colored sweatbands or bandanas. And that's all there is to it. A few tips to make your wardrobe and your day, a little brighter.
