Hello, I'm Lincoln Snyder from Epicenter in Portland, Oregon and I'm here for About.com. This is how you get a shaggy textured cut for men.

How to Start a Shaggy Textured Men's Hair Cut

So the tools you'll need for this haircut are regular shears thinning shears a feather razor and some t-edge clippers and various combs. So you want to start out with clean towel dried hair so the hair doesn't stick together from products. Start out by putting a cutting solution on the hair so it keeps the moisture content throughout the cut. Comb the product through. Find where the round of the head is and part. Clip the hair to keep it controlled.

How to Do a Shaggy Textured Cut

Start by taking vertical sections. Use your feather razor and cut notches in the hair. Take another section and continue using first section as a guide. Unclip the top section. You want to keep length on top. Starting about a 1/3 of the way down cut Vs to your finger. By cutting smooth tapers in the hair it gives your hair movement and body. The tapers blend together and don't look clumpy.

For sideburns I'm choosing to do scissor over comb on them. So basically get a wide toothcomb that's flat. Come from underneath and scissor over comb.

How to Style a Men's Shaggy Haircut

To style you want a dry styling paste. Emulsify, put through hair. Since this is a shaggy cut I'm not going to use a brush, I'm going to use my hands so it doesn't get a smooth finish. Ok to give it a more textured look you can use more products when it is dry. Starting at the lengths. So this haircut could be pushed into a fohawk because of all the little ramps in the hair you can style it many ways. You can push it back to, use your hair dryer to help so it can be both smooth and textural with this haircut.
