Transcript:How to Get a Long Mussed Haircut for Men

Hi this is Stephanie from Epicenter Hair in Portland, Oregon for About.com, and this is how to get a mussed cut for men.

How to Start a Mussed Cut for Men

Using freshly washed hair apply sea salt spray as your cutting lotion.  Comb the hair to its natural fall, and decide with your client where you want to keep your length.

How to Achieve a Mussy Hair Cut

Using diagonal forward sections cut your hair with the feather razor to the appropriate length. Isolate the top section using horseshoe parting.

Continue cutting the length, taking the next section from the occipital to the nape of the hair using your feather razor to cut from short to long scooping out the hair from each section.

Working the top section into radial sections twisting to isolate each section, 5 in front and 5 in back. Using your razor to scoop out the hair from short to long to maintain as much length in front as needed.

In the top section comb straight up while you texturize the hair and personalize the fringe area to the client’s desire

Remove any additional weight

How to Style a Mussy Men's Haircut

Use sea salt spray. Blow dry the hair using your fingers to bring out natural texture. Using a matte texture paste with medium to firm hold, apply from the mid lengths to end combing through the hair with your fingers and scrunching into the hair to ensure a messy texture.

Manipulating the hair to the desired shape.

And this is how you achieve a mussy haircut.
