Transcript:Warning Signs of Cheating Spouses

Hi, I’m Dale Atkins. I’m a psychologist and I’m here for About.com. What are the signs of a cheating spouse? These are issues that are different for nearly every couple, but there are some things that seem to be somewhat universal and I’d like to share those with you.

Your Spouse's Increased Need for Privacy

Generally, when someone is having an affair, they want to have a lot more privacy. They might change their password, and they’ll have conversations where they go out of the room, or they’ll be on their computer a lot more than they used to be. Sometimes when people are having affairs, they’ll change their work schedules and their everyday schedules, and they may say they’re going to be places where they’re actually not. You may try to find them on their cell phones and they don’t pick up. This is generally once of the warning signs that someone is having an affair.

Change in Sex Life with Your Spouse

There may be some changes in your sexual life. It may be about stress, it may be just about feeling disconnected, but may also be a warning sign that your spouse is having an affair. He or she may have a short temper, or may be distant in some way. Wanting to argue, or perhaps not paying attention, or just a general moodiness or malaise with either you, your children, or situations. It may not always mean that your spouse is cheating on you, but it may be one of the warning signs.

Intuition and Warning Signs

Very often we have in internal voice, an internal feeling that something is amiss between ourselves and our partner, and we have a feeling that he or she may be having another relationship. So one of the most important things to do is to trust your gut.If you’d like to learn more about having a healthy marriage, please visit About.com.
