Hi, I'm Jane Fendelman for About.com, and this video is all about marital sex statistics.
Well we've all heard the jokes about how once you get married, there goes the sex. So, let's take a look at the numbers. 12% of married couples sleep separately. Now, if that's how you like to sleep and you feel good sleeping alone, then that's an okay thing. But if you're sleeping separately because you're mad, that's not a good thing. If you're sleeping separately because you're snoring, then go to the doctor.
Sex and Housework
A whopping 84% of women use sex to get their guy to do stuff around the house. Now, this can be a really good thing. If a woman doesn't feel like she has her man's help, she starts feeling overwhelmed. That will shut a woman down sexually. She doesn't mean to withhold sex, it's just, her heart starts to hurt, and if the heart is closed, the legs are closed. When a man starts doing things around the house, a woman feels happy again and her heart opens up.
Faking an Orgasm
48% of women have faked their orgasm. Now, this is a very touchy subject for couples. Women want their man to feel like he can win with her and like he's doing a good job. And sometimes a man can just collapse inside when the woman tries to instruct him on how to give her pleasure in a more satisfactory way. So, when you're approaching this subject it's a good idea to sit down at a calm time, not when you're in the middle of having sex, and talk about what you need, so that you can be more satisfied. And men, try to put the delicate side of you that's going to feel crushed, to the side, so that all that's present is the student in you that wants to please your woman.
Not Having Enough Sex
2/3 of the people polled feel that they don't have enough sex. The main reason that sex declines after marriage is, men like to hunt and they court their woman. And women need to be courted in order to open sexually to their man. Once the man is married to the woman he stops courting her. Men can lose their sex drive due to many issues: physical, mental, emotional for instance work stress. Once their overloaded mentally, emotionally, they don't have much to spare much energy at the end of the day. Their age can effect their sex drive. A man or a woman's weight can effect their sex drive. Using drugs or alcohol definitely effects sex drive.
Of the people polled who feel satisfied with their sex life, 82% said that it was because they feel respected in their sexual relations with their mate. Therefore, mutual respect is a key component to a healthy, satisfying sex-life.
Use these statistics not to judge yourself, but to know that you're not alone in some of these issues. And if there is a problem in your sexual satisfaction with your mate be brave and communicate that to your mate. It is worth it.
