Hi! This is Meghan Lynn Allen for About.com, and today we'll discuss how to plan your 20th wedding anniversary. The 20th anniversary of marriage is a milestone anniversary - it celebrates your commitment to one another over 20 years of marriage. So make sure you take the time to celebrate. Here are some tips to help you get started.
Traditional and Modern 20th Wedding Anniversary Gifts
The traditional 20th anniversary gift is china. It's traditional, it's beautiful, and it's delicate - just like your 20 years of marriage. The modern gift is platinum, which is strong and durable. Certainly two different ways to go, but if you're thinking platinum, you can go jewelry. Perhaps a wedding band, or something small and simple like a tie tack for a man. And you can even think jewelry boxes, picture frames, try to work in that platinum or china if you're doing the traditional anniversary gift. The 20th anniversary gemstone is emerald, or a yellow or gold diamond. If you're thinking about flowers, think about the day lily. It represents the joyful playfulness that you have for one another, and the wedding anniversary colors are emerald, green, or white.
Celebrating a 20th Wedding Anniversary
The 20th year celebration is a big one, and it's time for celebration, so think about including friends and family. Often, a 20th wedding anniversary is celebrated with a party, and you can get help from your friends and family to plan that. One of the most important gifts you can give your partner on your 20th wedding anniversary is the gift of time. In 20 years, things have certainly changed, whether it's career, moving, jobs, children. So, take that time to celebrate, even if it's just looking into the eyes of your partner and telling them how much you appreciate being married for 20 years.
