Hi I'm Matthew Peterson for About.com and I want to talk to you about hte proper way to delegate to employees.
Tips for Delegating Project to Employees
As a manager, you always want to make sure you approach the employee with hard and soft deadlines. Never give the employee more than he or she can handle. As long as the project is manageable, you can check in periodically, not micromanage, but just to see whether the employee has any questions regarding the process.
Instructions for Delegating Projects to Employees
To designate certain projects as urgent be sure to color code or use a numbering system so that when the employee sees red that might represent fire showing them it must be done right away. Or, you could use a scale of 1 to 5 with five being the top priority. With new employees it is possible to mitigate risk by giving the employee little bits at a time rather than dumping a project on them. It also may be necessary to check in more often to ensure they understand the parameters of hte project. And that is the proper way to delegate to employees.
