Transcript:The Vanishing Bead
Hi, my name is Al Archimage for About.com, and today I’m going to show you how to perform the vanishing bead trick. This is a fun and easy trick perform. This simple illusion is a great introduction to magic for children of all ages. To demonstrate this, my assistant Alvaro will perform the trick, and then show you the secret behind the illusion.
Items Needed for the Vanishing Bead Trick:
- a paper cup
- scissors
- two identical beads
When performing this trick, you will have the spectator place a small bead inside of a paper or plastic cup. When you turn the cup over, the bead will have vanished. You then reveal that the bead has magically transported into your pocket.
Hide the Bead Beneath a Hole in the Cup
Take a pair of scissors and cut a small hole in the bottom of the cup. The hole should be big enough for the bead to pass through. Before performing the trick, take the second bead and place it in your pocket.
When performing the trick, hold the cup with your hand along the bottom of the cup. Drop the bead into the cup. Let the bead fall through the hole and into the palm of your hand. Keep the bead pressed between your hand and the bottom of the cup.
Reveal the Bead in Your Pocket
When you turn the cup over, it will appear as though the bead has disappeared. Make sure not to let the spectator see the inside of the cup. Next, reach into your pocket and reveal the second bead. It should appear as though the bead has magically traveled to your pocket.
