Memory Installation Requirements

Before you begin your Apple Macbook Pro memory upgrade, consult your computer's manual to see what type of memory is right for your system.

Today, I'll be installing memory in a notebook computer that has an access panel. If your computer doesn't have one of these, you may need to go to an authorized technician.

Remove Macbook Memory Access Panel

To start, locate the memory access panel. There are usually more than one removable plates on the bottom of your Notebook, so consult your manual to figure out which one is which.

Gently unscrew the panel with a Phillips head or flat head screw driver. Be sure to store the screw some where safe as it is usually a small precision screw made just for that Notebook.

Remove the access panel. Depending on your computer it may lift, slide, or twist off. Consult your manual if you don't know.

Insert Macbook Memory

Align the notch of the memory stick with that of the memory slot and gently insert the stick into the slot at a 45-degree angle.

Once all the pins are in the slot, gently press the memory down flat until the clamps lock the stick into place.

Close up the Macbook

Return the access panel to its place. Gently secure the screw. Don't twist too tight because you may damage the casing or the screw's threads. Power up your notebook.

Check Memory Installation

If you hear a beeping noise, this may indicate that your memory was not installed correctly. Turn off your computer, and readjust the memory.
